about

"Austin-centric Americana at its purest." - Jim Caliguri, Austin Chronicle

"A very raw and gutsy album, leaning as much into Appalachian folk as it does Texan dance-hall and Americana." - Nick Jarman, Americana UK

"[Lowe is] an Americana standout with this record." - Susan Hubbard, Mother Chuch Pew

----

With "Wandering Father, Forgotten Son," Austin Americana songwriter Silas Lowe has created a touching ode to his father, a tribute to lost musical treasures, and a stirring record full of great American roots music.

As a founding member of Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys in '60s New York, Lowe’s father Roy Michaels worked closely with Jimi Hendrix(who produced Cat Mother’s first album) and shared bills with many in the rock pantheon. Wandering Father, Forgotten Son, Lowe’s second record, is a bridge between the the ghost of a father who drifted to Thailand and a son who was left to fit the pieces together.

After decades apart, Lowe and Michaels were reunited in Austin, Texas, where they built a new relationship and shared their passion for music. Michaels passed away in 2008, but Lowe has nurtured his father’s musical legacy as a standout singer, songwriter, and bandleader of Americana music.

"Wandering Father, Forgotten Son" features six new songs by Lowe and six songs by Michaels — lovingly unearthed, rearranged and performed by Lowe and producer Ben Sanders. The result is an innovative blend of American musical styles, spanning Appalachian hollers to to Texas dance halls. Reminiscent of the Johns Hartford and Hurt, but bolstered by Lowe’s high lonesome voice and a talented cast of backing musicians including Danny Barnes, Dom Fisher (Wood & Wire) and Jenn Miori (The Carper Family).

"Wandering Father, Forgotten Son" may have its roots in the bittersweet reunion of a father and his son, but ultimately it cements Lowe as the carrier of Michaels’ madcap American roots legacy.
